Today is the big day! Millions of people will be glued to their TV sets awaiting the results of a contentious election. The election has highlighted our differences while magnifying our divisions. Perhaps, that is to be expected in the Great Melting Pot experiment that began back in 1776. When you bring together so many people from so many different backgrounds there simply is no way we will always agree on everything or always see eye to eye. Yet, prior to this election cycle, the wounds seemed healable. I’m not sure that I can say that is the case this go around, although I pray that God will find a way to bring us together and unite us after the election is over. Admittedly, it doesn’t look promising.
However, as a Christian, my greatest concern in life is how will I use this moment to advance the Gospel? Letting people know that there is a God who loves them and who gave His son as an atoning sacrifice for them so that they might not perish but experience eternal life is a vital message everyone needs to hear so that they can have the opportunity to repent and believe.
Whatever the results, I know that God remains in control. We plan and choose. God determines and decides.
Every person must submit to and support the authorities over him. For there can be no authority in the universe except by God’s appointment, which means that every authority that exists has been instituted by God. So to resist authority is to resist the divine order of God, which results in severe consequences. For civil authorities don’t intimidate those who are doing good, but those who are doing evil. So do what is right and you’ll never need to fear those in authority. They will commend you for your good citizenship.

Prayer:
Father God, regardless of the outcome, unite us. Help us overcome our differences. Heal our wounds. May we turn our eyes to You, Lord as we seek to advance the Gospel. In Jesus’ name, by the power of the Spirit. Amen.
