Monday, September 6, 2021, Americans celebrate Labor Day. It is a time celebration, commemorating the myriad of contributions and achievements of American workers.
The holiday, traditionally celebrated on the first Monday of every September, often features backyard cookouts, carnivals, parades, and fireworks. Labor Day marks the unofficial end of cultural summer, ushering in the beginning of a new school year and numerous sporting activities.
Did you know? Labor Day grew out of American workers protesting.
The Origins of Labor Day

In the 1880s, the Industrial Revolution continued to transform the work lives of many people in America and around the world. Unfortunately, work conditions in many companies were dangerous and wages for the average worker were frequently very low. The era soon saw the rise of labor movements and protests, often led by a growing number of labor unions. Several of these protests, like the Haymarket Incident in Chicago, turned violent.
As a result, protests continued, Congress got involved, and many new traditions began that celebrated the what was then the modern day worker. In late 1882, over ten thousand workers marched through the streets of New York City in honor of their fellow working men, women, and children.
Much has changed since those early days of the Industrial Revolution. Without workers, many ideas would simply remain ideas and many innovations would never see the light of day,
This Labor Day, remember the workers who labor everyday to bring us the numerous things we have grown to depend on.

Labor Day Prayer
Father God, we thank You for the blessing of work. We also thank You, God, for the opportunity to rest from our daily labor. Lord, we thank You, because You ordained work to be part of our life front the first days we spent in the Garden of Eden, to now. Help us be good workers who do our part to help others live better lives. May we work unto You , Lord, regardless of the type of work we do. We give You all the praise, honor, and glory. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
May your Labor Day be a time of blessing and joy.
Humbly,
The Devotional Guy™
Thank you Ranier for your sharing some of our history. Indeed, our world would look much different without the spirit of workers. Your prayers are always a blessing to participate with. God’s peace!
