5+ Things to Do in Texas This Fall | #BLOGTOBER

As I alluded in a previous post, Fall in Texas doesn’t usually last long. However, the Texas Autumn is filled with numerous fun activities that make this time of year special. Autumn in Texas is a great season to make memories.

For instance, October ushers in the State Fair of Texas. The largest fair in the Lone Star State runs for 24 days and features fried food, carnival rides, livestock exhibits, big football games, artisans, and entertainers.

Probably the next big thing to do in the beautiful Autumn of Texas is attend the Austin City Limits Music Festival. The festival covers two weekends—six days total—-and features a plethora of major musical artists.

If you’re a fan of Renaissance festivals like Scarborough Renaissance Festival, then you will have a blast at the Texas Renaissance Festival. Featuring more than 300 craft and arts booths, the TRF is the largest fair of its kind in the nation. Come dressed in your favorite Renaissance outfit and get transported back to the 16th century.

The Texas Fall also rings in Oktoberfest. Did you know that Texas boasts a strong German influence? There are German towns like Fredericksburg, Muenster, and New Braunfels, German restaurants, and a host of festivals celebrating beer, sausage, and Texas-influenced German fashion.

Fall in Texas also means balloon festivals, like the one held annually in Plano, Texas. The Plano Balloon Festival has been running for over 40 years and offers balloon rides, balloon races, tons of tasty treats, and special shows featuring sky divers and other entertainment.

You can also get lost in a corn maze like the one at Sweet Berry Farms in Marble Falls. There are corn mazes at places throughout the Lone Star State including Dewberry Farms, YesterLand Farms, and Barton Hill Farms.

The Autumn also rings in arts shows and festivals featuring artisans, craftsmen, live music, and lots to drink and eat. The renowned Cottonwood Arts Festival and the annual Huffhines Harvest Fest (formerly Huffines Art Trails) are wonderful places to visit with friends and family.

Of course, the Fall means football in Texas. There is plenty of pigskin to take in under the Friday Night Lights at your nearby high school. There are big games like the Red River Rivalry between the University of Texas and our northern neighbors from Oklahoma University.

Autumn in Texas also means opportunities for hunting and camping. It’s a great time of the year for hiking and going on nature walks. You can go check out a pumpkin patch or visit beach towns like Corpus Christi, South Padre, and Galveston. Naturally, it’s a wonderful time to play golf, birdwatch, or sit out and look at the stars adorning the nighttime sky.
