Keep Your Eyes Firmly Planted on Jesus During the Advent Season

The Lord woke me up early this morning. “Let my soul rise up to meet You, my sweet Lord, as the day rises to meet the sun.”

Thoughts swirled through my brain. Lists compiled rampantly in my mind. It’s inclement weather season here in the North Central Texas region and I’ve been tasked with ensuring we are ready. Ready is complicated. There are lots of moving parts and a long list of details. But I love it. Well…I like the challenge of it. If I’m doing it right, a lot of my work will go unseen. But, it won’t go unnoticed. Especially if there is anything missing.

Problem? No worries. I’ll take care of it. Sometimes that involves solving a puzzling issue with a gate not functioning properly. Other times, it involves a listening session with someone struggling in their ministry role or trying to overcome chronic homelessness.

A lot of what I do relies heavily on collaboration. Teamwork is dream work, I’ve heard it said. And I think for the most part—-especially when it’s right—working together with others is like a great dream come true. Fact is—I need other people to do their thing to help me do mine. Ministry is hard enough without going it alone.

I am grateful for the team of people I work alongside. God has assembled a unique group of individuals with a broad spectrum of skills, talents, and gifts.

During His earthly ministry, Jesus sent the disciples out in two. He did not expect them to minister alone.

And he called his twelve disciples together and began sending them out two by two, giving them authority to cast out evil spirits.

Mark 6:7 (New Living Translation)

During this Advent season, it’s important that we keep our eyes focused on Jesus. As children of God, we each play an integral role on Team Jesus.

May the Lord go with you wherever you go. May peace follow you always. Stay confident that the Lord who called you also equipped you.

Blessings,

  3. I believe it’s true, and it’s very comforting to hear it put like this: the Lord who called you also equipped you. Thank you!
