A Modern Psalm for Strength Amid Sickness

Like you, no doubt, I know many people who are struggling with serious sickness. They hurt and they need hope. I’ve composed this contemporary psalm to address their fears as they battle against the realities that accompany their grave illness.

I pray that if you’re reading this post and are ill that you might find solace and comfort in my words. If you know someone who is suffering from sickness, I pray that you might share these words with them.

May all be well with you, my friend.

A Modern Psalm for Strength Amid Sickness

O, Lord! O God! My heart is burdened with the heaviness of fear, as illness grips me close, its shadows drawing near. My body is weak, my spirit is worn. I turn to You, my Lord, my hope destitute and devasted.

You are my Sustainer, my Healer, my Redeemer, my Rock, O Lord, my God. Hallelujah!

In this trial of pain and strife, I seek Your grace, my God, to sustain my life. When doubts attack and fears arise, I lift my eyes to the skies.

You are my Sustainer, my Healer, my Redeemer, my Rock, O Lord, my God. Hallelujah!

You, O God, serve as my refuge, my hope, my light, amidst the darkness, You shine bright. Your healing touch, Your mercies new, Give me strength to face what I must do. Give me Your strength, Almighty God.

You are my Sustainer, my Healer, my Redeemer, my Rock, O Lord, my God. Hallelujah!

Though sickness ravages my body, I trust in You, in Your holy name. Your love surrounds me like a shield, In Your presence, I am healed.

You are my Sustainer, my Healer, my Redeemer, my Rock, O Lord, my God. Hallelujah!

Though the road is steep and long, I find solace in Your song. Your promises, like a balm to my soul, restore my faith and make me whole. Your love satisfies my soul.

You are my Sustainer, my Healer, my Redeemer, my Rock, O Lord, my God. Hallelujah!

So, I lift my voice in praise to You, for it is Your grace that carries me through the darkest of nights and the deepest of valleys. In sickness or in health, no matter what, I trust in You, Lord, day by day.

You are my Sustainer, my Healer, my Redeemer, my Rock, O Lord, my God. Hallelujah!

With grateful heart, I cling to Your hand, Assured that in Your care I stand. In Your embrace, I find my peace, And from this illness, I will find release.

You are my Sustainer, my Healer, my Redeemer, my Rock, O Lord, my God. Hallelujah!

So, I give thanks, O Lord, to You, for Your presence, Your love, Your mercy. Amidst may trials and tribulations, I find my rest, knowing You are always good.

You are my Sustainer, my Healer, my Redeemer, my Rock, O Lord, my God. Hallelujah!

Amen.

  2. Yes indeed, so many hurting people. More than we can hope to help ourselves.

I’m reminded of the story of the man throwing starfish back into the sea, one by one.

When asked what he hoped to accomplish, since it was clear he couldn’t save them all, he was asked why he was trying at all.

He threw one more into the sea.

Likewise we, too, can each make a difference to one person at a time…
