Good morning friends! As you all know, work is an integral aspect of our life. While we are not what we do, work gives us purpose and a sense of identity. Through our work, we can shine the love of Jesus in people’s lives by doing our work with excellence. Work allows us to serve and help one another. It allows us to give and it fuels our generosity. True, work isn’t all biscuits and gravy. But I’ve never met a problem that not having a job helped solve. We need work. We were created for work. Our work is an act of worship, as we employ all our God-given skills and talents.
In light of the significant role work plays in our lives, I wrote a new contemporary psalm titled “Labor Unto the Lord: A Modern Work Psalm”.
I pray you enjoy reading it and that it helps give you a boost as you toil and strive at whatever work the Lord has provided.
Labor Unto the Lord | A Modern Work Psalm
O Lord, our God! We lift our hearts with grateful praise for all the work You provided for us to do. You’ve called us to advance Your kingdom.You’ve commanded us to love our neighbors and to use our gifts to serve, help and sow.
May we work in a manner that brings You praise! May we work in a way that brings You glory!
With great toil and sweat, we earn our daily bread, providing for those You entrusted to us. Our work brings structure to our way of life, helping us bear one another’s burdens, amid turmoil and strife.
May we work in a manner that brings You praise! May we work in a way that brings You glory!
Yet, in this striving, we can lose our way, making an idol of what we work to create. We turn our eyes from You, God Almighty, and instead seek success and riches to possess, forgetting the One who gave us His best.
May we work in a manner that brings You praise! May we work in a way that brings You glory!
So, help us, Lord, we ask that Your Holy Spirit keeps our hearts in check, giving us strength to live a blessed life in light of Eternity. May we find joy in all that we create, in and through our work, with every effort bringing glory to Your name.

You, O Lord, are the Great Designer! Every skill we possess, we owe to You. Help us use the fullness of our talents for Your glory!
May we work in a manner that brings You praise! May we work in a way that brings You glory!
Let us work with steadfast diligence and great care. May we always keep Your kingdom in our sights. Help us be faithful stewards of Your gifts, and in our work, bring You unending joy and delight.

May your week be filled with God’s abundant blessings. Praise God for His goodness!

Thank you, Rainer. You always seem to post about work when I am at my wit’s end with my job ☺️ Thank you for this humble reminder to work unto the Lord. My job can be stressful and I feel inadequate when I have something on my plate that is beyond my small brain. I have to remember that my Shepherd is in control, even at work. Your words are encouraging.
