Trusting in God Amid Life’s Highs and Lows

During our recent inclement weather service event, I was struck by the highs and lows of life playing out in front of my eyes. Processing what I was seeing really challenged me.

Trusting in God amid life’s highs and lows is a journey of faith that demands intentional focus and dependence on God.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.

Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.

Proverbs 3:5-6 (NLT)

One way to deepen our trust in God is through prayer and seeking His presence. I’ve been blessed this week by spending intentional time in prayer at work and at the church we’ve been visiting. On two occasions, it required that I get up early in order to make the prayer meeting scheduled at 6 a.m.

Through spending time in prayer, I had the opportunity to recalibrate my spiritual center.

Spending time reading and meditating on Scripture can sustain us as we navigate between the highs and lows life brings. For example, the Psalms are filled with expressions of both joy and despair as they consistently point to the faithfulness of God amid life’s hills and valleys.

In addition to prayer and focus on God’s Word, seeking fellowship with other believers can also provide encouragement and support during life’s highs and lows.

Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.

Hebrews 10:24-25 (NLT)

Furthermore, serving and helping others in need can deepen our trust in God, as we experience His love and provision working through us to bring hope to others. When we take the focus off ourselves we can see God working in our lives more clearly.

Ultimately, deepening our trust in God as we navigate life’s highs and lows means surrendering our will to His, acknowledging His sovereignty, and embracing the truth that He is with us in every season of life, no matter what.

  4. I can identify with how you said it’s a challenge to process the highs and lows, brother. Faith is the victory, but it can sometimes be fickle, at least for me. It’s like your legs turning to jelly after climbing too many flights of stairs. We desperately need time to process, with prayer and time on the Word and fellowship with other believers, during times like these.
We are set for some snow up this way, is it coming to Big D?

I’m so thankful we can trust the Lord through it all. It’s not always easy, but it’s possible. I like the tips you provided on how to stay anchored. And so very true about surrendering to God. That is key. “Not my will, but Yours be done.”
