Abandonment

Are you feeling alone today?

Abandonment is a sense of being left behind or deserted by someone, either physically or emotionally. This can result in feelings of rejection and betrayal. This can be confusing and disheartening.

Feeling abandoned deeply wounds the heart, leaving one to wrestle with a huge sense of loneliness and despair.

During these times, it’s vital to remember that God’s presence is a steadfast assurance, even when human relationships fail us. Scripture offers us illustrations of God’s unwavering commitment to those who love Him and trust Him.

As the Israelites are preparing to crossover into the long awaited Promised Land, Moses informs the people that he won’t be coming with them. He warns them that while they will face trials and tribulations in the weeks to come, to remember that the Lord is going before them and preparing the way. Moses encourages the people to continue trusting the Lord even though Moses himself has arrived at the end of his time on Earth.

So be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid and do not panic before them. For the Lord your God will personally go ahead of you. He will neither fail you nor abandon you.

Deuteronomy‬ ‭31‬:‭6‬ ‭NLT‬‬

In the words of Deuteronomy 31:6, we discover a powerful promise of God’s unwavering presence. This verse serves as a beacon of hope, reminding us that today, just like back then, the Lord, our God, stands as an unshakable tower providing us with strength and courage, no matter what we are facing.

In Psalm 27:10, the writer reminds us of God’s profound comfort during times that we are experiencing a deep sense of abandonment.

Even if my father and mother abandon me, the Lord will hold me close.

Psalms‬ ‭27‬:‭10‬ ‭NLT‬‬

This Bible verse speaks directly to the heart, offering us solace and a promise of divine acceptance, reminding us that even when those closest to us might walk away, the Lord embraces us with open arms, ready to receive us and prepared to comfort us.

I know many people living on the streets who struggle with a sense of abandonment. They have experienced their parents, the ones they should have been able to trust, abandoning them. Their sense of abandonment is very real. For them, it’s a hard truth.

It’s hard to overcome this unexpected rejection apart from God’s word and without His help. I just don’t know how anyone could do it otherwise.

In moments of abandonment, it’s important to cling to the truths of God’s word. When we allow the words of Scripture to serve as solace for us, then we choose wisely. If we turn to the wiles of the world, we are acting foolishly. The things of the world only help temporarily, if at all.

On the other hand, God’s words can heal our greatest hurts and calm our biggest fears, just like they’ve done for generations upon generations.

If you are struggling with feelings of abandonment, I encourage you to anchor your heart in the assurance of God’s word as a reminder of His eternal presence and unwavering commitment love in your life. God is our refuge and our constant companion who understands our pain and is there to renew our spirit. That means you, too.

I don’t know who needs this word today but I woke up in the middle of the night compelled to share it. Someone out there needs to hear it. I’m praying it finds you and helps you make it through this day.

For me, pictures serve as great reminders of how blessed I am when I am not feeling my best. We will explore that in my next post.

In the meantime…

Go tell somebody about Jesus!

  4. Blessings Rainer for sharing what was dwelling in your thoughts. Abandonment can be such a cold event in anyone’s life. Indeed, I need to stop and take time to praise God’s goodness. He will find His way to deliver us from the wilderness of abandonment.
