My Sunday Evening Post

Welcome back to my blog, my friend. It’s been quite the week here since my previous post last Sunday.

Monday, I brought my Mom to Dallas on a day trip to see an eye doctor. We have been unsatisfied with her eye doctors at home and are hoping to help her get answers about her struggling eyesight.

Thursday, my sister- in-law had a heart procedure to address issues she has been experiencing in recent weeks. My brother-in-law recently underwent w heal surgery. So life has been difficult for them, to say the least.

While at the hospital visiting my sister-in-law, my father-in-law tripped and fell, fracturing his pelvis.

And all that is just one segment of our lives. Needless to say, Terri and I have individually been wrapped up in prayer as our beloved family members endure these struggles.

Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy.

On a more positive note, due to the diligent hard work of several of my teammates, a guy named Chris is getting off the streets and into a program in Atlanta. I’ve known Chris a good while and I’m glad to see him finally get off the streets. He is really talented and I pray that he gets to share his gifts with the world. Most of all, I’m glad he has found the courage to embrace change.

Lately, I’ve been thinking about my maternal grandfather, Opa Bruno, as the Paris Summer Olympics approach and after Terri and I spent a couple of hours talking about her athletic experiences over morning coffee while sitting outside at our patio table. My Opa was a huge fan of Olympic sports and believed, after living through two global wars, that the Olympics might be something that maintained world peace.

Terri and I discussed women’s sports, particularly women’s soccer which she devoted thirty years of her life to playing, and the early years when she played in the first international women’s soccer tournament in Taiwan in 1978. Her 1980 Sting team, coached by our dear friend Bill Kinder, won the first-ever US Women’s National Soccer Championship in 1980.

The stories of these pioneers are lost in the annals of history. We pondered if we should figure out a way to tell these stories.

As women battle to keep their hard fought place in sports, the stories of these pioneers should peak interest in an era where women athletes face the brewing challenges brought on by trans athletes intruding into their sporting arenas. What do you think?

Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her.

I have been working on a lot of content that I hope to share with you in the weeks ahead.

How has your week been?

I look forward to hearing from you in the comments. Have a blessed week.

You are loved.

Praying for us.

  1. Rainer, I’ve added your family members to my prayers. Lord God, encourage others to join in supporting your umbrella of grace for these family members. Praising the open door that awaits Chris. Lastly, having three grown daughters who participated quite successfully in a number of sports and my own years of coaching and being involved with athletic administration, I understand the need for fair competition. Trans athletes who wish to participate in athletics, may be ignoring this standard of fairness.

  3. Well, at least your FIL fell in the right place so he could get help immediately.
As far as Trans people taking part in Women’s sports, I think maybe they should just get their own divisions since it is becoming so popular. I do not agree that they should participate in Women’s sports.

  4. Thank you for your prayers and for your encouraging support. Yes, indeed more good than bad. It’s easy to focus on the dark. But, I pray God allows me to continue seeing His light. Hopefully, I will post something new soon. Blessings to you and your beloved family.
