Today is my BIRTHDAY and I’m ecstatic about turning SIXTY! Yes, 60!! 6-0!!!
Time, in recent years, influenced by the pandemic, seems like a blur. Things that feel like yesterday, are in reality, memories of years ago.
In recent weeks and months, I’ve focused on my holistic well-being. This is a blessing and a luxury I realize many people don’t have in our modern society.
As I celebrate sixty successful trips around the Sun, I can’t help but think about the legacy I’ve left in my wake all these years.

WHAT Is My Legacy?
When people think about legacy, this is usually where they start. It’s about the tangible things, the visible markers of a life lived:
- The work you did
- The things you built
- The causes you championed
- The art you created
- The words you wrote
These are good and necessary. They serve as monuments and mile-markers. They tell a story to the world. They are important and they do matter.
But there’s something deeper.
WHO Is My Legacy?
This question shifts the focus from accomplishments to relationships.
- Whose life did I touch?
- Who thinks differently because of something I said or did?
- Who found hope, healing, or purpose because we crossed paths?
This is the relational legacy; the one that’s often invisible but carries eternal weight.
It’s the young man you mentored or the woman you encouraged in a dark season. It’s the child who learned love because of how you showed up.
In the end, the “who” outlasts the “what.”

The Example of Jesus
Jesus certainly did things —miracles, teachings, actions—that changed history.
But His greatest legacy wasn’t what He did. It was who He discipled.
Jesus poured Himself into people. He left behind people who would go on to transform the world.
The Apostle Paul understood this when he wrote:
1 Thessalonians 2:19 NIV
For what is our hope, our joy, or the crown in which we will glory in the presence of our Lord Jesus when he comes? Is it not you?
Not achievements. Not accolades. You.

A Few Questions to Live By
So I ask myself today:
- What am I leaving behind?
- But more importantly: who am I pouring into?
- Who will carry a piece of me when I’m gone?
Maybe it’s not just about building a legacy but becoming one.

If this resonates with you, I’d love to hear:
Who is your legacy?
Whose name comes to mind right now?

Let’s live today with tomorrow in view and make sure the “who” isn’t lost in the “what.”
Until my next post…
Be salty, stay lit.
