Be the Person You’d Like Jesus to See

It seems like a simple question, but one that has stayed with me:

If Jesus walked into the room today, would He be happy with the person He sees?

We can spend a lot of our energy managing impressions, especially in Dallas, a place where image is King. We’ve taken keeping up with the Joneses to new heights.

Naturally, we want our coworkers to believe we’re competent and our friends to know we’re loyal. We want our family men to think we’ve got it all together and that we’re living life to the fullest.

But Jesus sees beyond all of that.

Jesus knows the motives no one else notices. He sees our private decisions.
Jesus witnesses our acts of obedience and the compromises we try to justify.
And He sees the small acts of kindness that no one applauds.

Jesus isn’t looking for perfection. He’s looking for surrendered hearts.

Every day presents dozens of opportunities to become a little more like Christ by being more patient than we were yesterday, more forgiving, more truthful, more generous, and more willing to serve than perhaps we’ve been in the past.

The person Jesus delights to see isn’t the most accomplished or the most admired. He isn’t the person with the most accolades.

No, Jesus delights in the one who keeps saying, “Lord, make me more like You.”

Today, before you worry about how others see you, ask a different question:

What kind of person would I like Jesus to see?

And then, live in a way that answers that question.

And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.

May the One who sees us most clearly also be the One who shapes us most deeply.

Until my next post…

Be salty, stay lit.
