It’s a question I’m learning to ask more often. I’m sure you’ve probably asked it yourself.
I’m learning not to ask, “What will happen next?” or, “Will this opportunity lead to something bigger?”
I’m not asking, “Where will I be a year from now?”
I am simply asking:
How can I serve faithfully today?
Our minds like to race ahead. It’s not uncommon that we want to know the outcome before we’ve taken the next faithful step. We love certainty before choosing obedience. We want God to give us the whole map when He often gives us only the next mile.
The Bible consistently points us back to today’s faithfulness. Moses was given manna one day at a time. The Israelites were led one step at a time by a pillar of cloud and fire. Even Jesus taught us to pray for our daily bread, not next year’s supply.
Faithfulness has always been rooted in the present.
I’ve discovered that asking, “Where is this leading?” becomes a distraction from asking, “Lord, what are You asking of me today?”
Maybe our assignment for today is to encourage a coworker or to listen more than we speak.
Perhaps it’s to do ordinary work with extraordinary integrity or simply to love the person standing in front of us.
The truth is, God often shapes our future through our faithfulness in what seems ordinary today.
You and I don’t have to carry tomorrow’s burdens before tomorrow arrives. We don’t have to solve our entire calling this afternoon. We simply have to be faithful with today’s opportunity.
One day, Jesus won’t ask whether I predicted the future correctly.
He will ask whether I was faithful with what He placed in my hands.
So today, my prayer is simple:
“Lord, help me stop reaching for tomorrow and start embracing today. Give me eyes to see the people You’ve entrusted to me, wisdom to serve them well, and a heart that is content to be faithful one day at a time. May I leave tomorrow in Your hands while I faithfully serve You today. In Jesus Name, Amen.”

Be salty, stay lit.
