Day 347

What will I write about today?

Day
three
forty
seven.

Three hundred forty-seven days
of showing up.

Today?

I dunno.

Got a lot on my mind.

Which is funny…

because my mind feels full
of absolutely nothing
in particular.

Just static.

Groggy-eyed.
Bald head gleaming.
Coffee cup in my hand
like it’s part of the dress code.

Cat in my lap.

Of course.

Because cats
don’t care about deadlines,
word counts,
or whether inspiration
slept in.

It’s Fri-yay!

or…
it’s just Friday.

Depends on who’s asking.

Outside,
Texas is already warming up
for another hot performance.

One hundred degree hot.

Suffocatingly humid.

The kind of humid
that hugs you
without permission.

And I’m sitting here
wondering, like I was yesterday…

What do I write
when I’ve got so much to say but can’t find the right words to say it?

Do I write about the coffee?

The cat?

The heat?

The fact that I’ve somehow
done this
three hundred forty-seven days
in a row?

Maybe.

Or maybe
I write about showing up.

Inspiration
is overrated.

Faithfulness isn’t.

Anybody can write
when the lightning strikes.

Almost anybody anyhow.

But showing up
on the ordinary mornings,

the mornings that smell like coffee
and sweat with humidity,

the mornings when my head
is full of nothing and everything at the same time,

is where the story is.

Maybe that’s all blogging is?

Showing up.

Paying attention.

Trusting that somewhere
between
“I got nothing”
and
“Amen”…

God will hand me
a sentence.

Lookee there…

Appears like He already did.

Until my next post…

Be salty, stay lit.

  3. That’s where ALL the magic happens, I believe dear Rainer … between “I got nothing … and AMEN” indeed!
Thank you for showing up – consistently – my friend.
    You are valued! 💜
