One of the greatest gifts we can give another person isn’t our advice. It isn’t our expertise. It isn’t even our time.
It’s our attention.
In a world full of distractions, giving someone your undivided attention has become an act of love. When we set aside our phones, quiet our internal dialogue, and genuinely listen, we communicate something powerful: You matter.
Jesus did this repeatedly throughout the Gospels. Crowds surrounded Him, yet He consistently gave individuals His full attention. He looked people in the eyes. He asked questions. He listened. He noticed those everyone else overlooked.
Attention is more than hearing words. It’s noticing emotions, hopes, fears, and the image of God in another person. It says, “I’m here with you.”
I believe that every conversation is an opportunity to serve. Behind every interaction is a person with a story, a family, dreams, disappointments, and a desire to find meaning. We can treat each person we meet with dignity by listening well.
The same is true in our everyday relationships. We don’t have to solve everyone’s problems. Often, people simply need someone willing to be fully present. People don’t need fixing nearly as much as they need someone to listen to them. They can solve their problem if they’re simply given a chance to be heard. When people feel heard, they often leave with more than answers; they leave knowing they were seen.
Perhaps one of the simplest ways we can reflect Christ today is by giving someone what has become increasingly rare: our complete, undivided attention.
Let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger.
James 1:19 (ESV)

Truth! I’m getting better at this, or trying to. I have a habit of listening to respond, rather than just listening and staying curious.
I hope you’re staying cool, brother. Well, I know you’re 😎 cool, I meant the weather. Heat, humidity, and dew point, it’s down right tropical. ☀️🥵
