Your Work Matters

I’ve been thinking a lot about work lately. Maybe because I just started a new job.

After enough years of working, you start to realize that a job is about a lot more than a paycheck.

The Bible tells us:

Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.

Colossians‬ ‭3‬:‭23‬-‭24‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Notice what Paul doesn’t say. He doesn’t say, “Whatever you do, make sure everyone notices,” or “Whatever you do, climb the ladder.”

Paul doesn’t even say, “Whatever you do, make sure you love every minute of it.”

He says work at it with all your heart as working for the Lord.

That changes things. It means the meeting matters. The spreadsheet matters. The phone call matters. The person sitting across from you matters. Even the stuff nobody will ever notice matters.

Because ultimately, we’re not just working for a company, a boss, a customer, or a paycheck.

We’re working for Jesus.

Suddenly, ordinary work becomes an opportunity for extraordinary faithfulness.

So whatever is on your calendar today:

Do it well.
Do it faithfully.
And do it for Him.

When we understand Who we’re really working for, even Monday through Friday becomes ministry.

[And yes, I realize this is much easier to say before the first meeting of the day.]

Until my next post…

Be salty, stay lit.
