Jesus didn’t call us to be the loudest people in the room. He called us to be salt and light. Salt preserves. It adds flavor. It makes a difference simply by being present. Light doesn’t argue with darkness. It simply shines.
So what does that look like today?
It means bringing integrity, goodness, moral clarity, and Christlike love into whatever spaces God has placed us.
It means choosing kindness when others choose cruelty. Standing for truth without treating those who disagree with us as enemies. Speaking truth with compassion. Listening before responding. And sometimes, simply showing up for someone who needs hope.
In Colossians 4:6 Paul says, “Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt.”
Paul’s words are a good reminder for me because sometimes I have plenty of salt and not nearly enough grace.
Being salt and light isn’t about winning arguments or proving we’re right. It’s about living in such a way that people see something different in us: Jesus.
So maybe the question isn’t, “How can I fix the world?”
Maybe it’s:
How can I faithfully shine where God has placed me today?
At work.
At home.
In my community.
Online.
We don’t have to light up the whole world. We just need to be willing to shine where God has put us.
Be salt. Be light. Be faithful. And let God take care of the rest.
