Saturday in the Word | 10 Verses to Encourage Others

I’m running a little behind today, as I’m adjusting to my new routines. We are going to veer from our Simple Bible Reading Plan today and look at what Scripture says about encouragement.

I’ve been thinking a lot about encouragement and encouraging others this last, particularly since I’m starting a new job and bonding with a new team.

I’ve found that sometimes people don’t need us to have the right answer. They just need a little encouragement.

The Bible has plenty to say about how we can encourage, strengthen, and remind one another that we’re not walking this road alone.

Here are 10 verses worth keeping close:

1 Thessalonians 5:11

Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.

Hebrews 10:24-25

And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.

Proverbs 12:25

Anxiety in a man’s heart weighs him down, but a good word makes him glad.

Ephesians 4:29

Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.

Galatians 6:2

Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.

Romans 12:10

Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor.

Isaiah 41:10

fear not, for I am with you;
be not dismayed, for I am your God;
I will strengthen you, I will help you,
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Deuteronomy 31:8

It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.

Philippians 4:13

I can do all things through him who strengthens me.

Numbers 6:24-26

The Lord bless you and keep you;
the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.

You never know what someone is carrying.

A kind word, text, or prayer might mean more than you realize.

So today, ask God to put someone on your heart who needs encouragement and then do something about it.

Be the encouragement someone else needs today.

That’s one way we can be salt and light.

Our team is traveling to North Carolina this week, so I invite you to pray for us as we travel there. It should be a rich time of learning and fellowship as we prepare to do the work God has called us to do in this season.
