Exuding Joy

I recently shared a little saying with my teammates:

“No Frowny Downys!”

It got more than a few smiles and giggles, but there’s actually something deeper behind it.

Joy builds unity. When we choose joy, we create an atmosphere where people want to be together, work together, and encourage one another.

Joy makes a joyful noise. Scripture tells us to “make a joyful noise” to the Lord. Joy isn’t meant to be hidden. It should be heard, seen, and experienced.

Joy nurtures gratitude. When we pay attention to the goodness of God instead of everything that’s going wrong, gratitude has room to grow. Joy helps us keep our eyes on the light rather than the darkness.

And maybe most importantly:

Joy is contagious.

We don’t always get to choose what happens around us, but we can choose what we bring into the room.

So today, let’s bring some joy with us.

Smile. Encourage somebody. Laugh a little. Give thanks. Be the person who makes the room a little lighter because you walked into it.

No Frowny Downys.

The joy of the Lord isn’t just something we experience.

It’s something we get to share.

Until my next post…

Be salty, stay lit.
