Wonder as a Doorway to Worship

Hello America! How are you?

I’ve never understood why some people think faith and science have to be enemies.

To me, they aren’t polar opposites. They’re not mutually exclusive.

I love science. I love learning how things work. I love looking at the stars, watching a sunrise, standing in the middle of a forest, or simply noticing the incredible complexity of the human body.

And the more I learn about creation, the more I find myself thinking about the Creator.

Science can tell me how something works.

But sometimes, it leaves me asking a bigger question:

Why is there something rather than nothing?

That’s where wonder comes in.

Wonder has a way of slowing us down. It makes us stop and say, Wow.

And sometimes, wow becomes worship.

The heavens declare the glory of God.
The intricacy of creation points beyond itself. The beauty we encounter awakens something deep within us.

I don’t see scientific discovery as a threat to faith. Rather, I see it as an invitation to look more closely at the world God made.

Microscopes and telescopes reveal wonder. Nature reveals wonder. Art reveals wonder. And wonder becomes a doorway to worship.

Maybe that’s why I love being an artist.

I get to spend my time looking closely at things most people might walk right past. If I’m really paying attention, I see more than the thing itself, because I catch a glimpse of the One who made it.

Wonder is not the opposite of faith.

Wonder is where faith begins.

Great are the works of the LORD, studied by all who delight in them.
