What Lies Are You Believing That the Devil Told You Are True?

Ive been thinking lately about how easily we believe a lie. Not some huge, obvious lie. Sometimes it’s a quiet little voice in the back of our minds:

You’re not good enough.

You’ve messed up too badly for God to use you.

You don’t matter.

You’re too old to make a difference.

Nobody really cares.

You’ll never change.

God couldn’t possibly love someone like you.

The Bible calls Satan the father of lies (John 8:44). And I think one of his favorite strategies is to get us to believe something that sounds just true enough to keep us stuck.

I know because I’ve believed a few of those lies myself. But here’s the thing about a lie:

It doesn’t become true just because we believe it.

So maybe today we need to stop and ask ourselves:

What lie am I believing that God never said?

Then replace the lie with the truth.

I am not worthless. I am made in the image of God.

I am not forgotten. God sees me.

I am not beyond redemption. God’s grace is bigger than my failures.

I am not alone. God is with me.

And I am not without purpose. God can use my life, even the messy parts, to point people toward Him.

The enemy wants us to live according to the lies.

Jesus, on the other hand, invites us to live according to the truth.

So, what lie have you been believing?

Maybe it’s time to stop listening to the father of lie and start listening to the One who is the Truth.

So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
