Wednesday Wisdom | The Wisdom of Taking It One Day at a Time

Lately, I’ve been thinking about the wisdom of taking life one day at a time.

Not one year at a time or one five-year plan at a time.

Certainly, not one giant, overwhelming “What in the world am I supposed to do with my life?” at a time.

Simply today.

We make life much harder than it needs to be by spending so much time worrying about tomorrow that we forget we’re actually living today.

We replay yesterday or we anticipate tomorrow. Meanwhile, today is standing there waving at us like, “Hey, remember me?”

Jesus had something to say about this:

“Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”

Matthew‬ ‭6‬:‭34‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Jesus wasn’t telling us to ignore the future. He was reminding us not to live there.

There are things I can’t fix today and questions I can’t answer today.

There are things I simply have to put in God’s hands.

And that’s okay.

Sometimes faith looks less like having a five-year plan and more like saying:

“Lord, give me what I need for today.”

Jesus give me enough grace for today.

Don’t borrow tomorrow’s trouble.

Don’t drag yesterday’s baggage into today.

I’ve learned that God is pretty good at being there when tomorrow becomes today.

Take a breath.

Be faithful with the day God has actually given you.

One day at a time.

Be salty, stay lit.

Wise words which remind me of old gospel song “One Day At A Time” which was a hit in UK with Lena Martell when I was a kid. We couldn’t spiritually cope with more than one day I think. Good post Rainer.
God bless you and Terri today🙏
