Wednesday Wisdom | 7 Truths for Transition

Life is full of transitions. Some we choose. Others choose us. Some feel like exciting new beginnings, while others leave us wondering what comes next. In life, change is a constant. Resilience, adaptability, and honesty are integral elements of navigating these changes—some planned, many unexpected—successfully.

Whether you’re changing careers, entering a new season of life, steering through an unexpected loss, or simply trying to figure out your next chapter of life, here are seven truths worth remembering.

1. Change is inevitable. Growth is intentional.
You can’t always control what changes in your life, but you can choose how you respond. Keep it simple. Choose faith over fear.

2. You don’t have to have it all figured out.
Sometimes, the next step becomes clear only after you take the first one. Trust God to guide you along the way. Approach life one day at a time. Practice living with open hands rather than closed fists.

3. Your identity is bigger than your circumstances.
You are more than your job title, relationship status, accomplishments, or your past mistakes. Your worth isn’t determined by your current season or even your past successes. As a Christian, your identity is anchored in Christ.

4. It’s okay to grieve what you’re leaving behind.
Even good changes can involve loss. Give yourself permission to acknowledge what was before embracing what might be. Grief doesn’t always involve the death of someone we love. We can grieve something we lost just as much as someone we loved.

5. Don’t confuse a waiting season with a wasted season.
God can use periods of uncertainty to deepen your faith, reshape your priorities, and prepare you for what’s next. Draw nearer to God during your most difficult and desperate moments. Spend time in prayer and in the Word.

6. You don’t have to walk through transition alone.
Invite trusted friends, mentors, and fellow believers into your journey. God provides direction through the wisdom and encouragement of others. Avoid the temptation to isolate yourself from others. You don’t need to go it alone.

7. Take the next faithful step.
You may not see the whole staircase, but you can take the next step in front of you. As Proverbs 3:5–6 reminds us, trust in the Lord and acknowledge Him in all your ways.

5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
and do not lean on your own understanding.
6 In all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make straight your paths.
7 Be not wise in your own eyes;
fear the Lord, and turn away from evil.
8 It will be healing to your flesh
    and refreshment to your bones.

Proverbs 3:5-8 ESV

A Final Thought

Transition isn’t just about moving from one place to another. It’s also about discovering who you’re becoming along the way.

God isn’t finished with your story yet!
