Friend, welcome to this week’s installment of Wednesday Wisdom.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
John 1:1 (ESV)
Have you noticed how life has a way of pulling us off center?
Our responsibilities demand our attention. The news fills our minds while our work consumes our energy. Relationships of all sorts challenge our patience. We worry about tomorrow, allowing our fretting steal our peace today.
Before we know it, the things competing for our attention begin shaping our perspective.
We lose sight of what matters most.
That’s when we need to recenter.
John begins his Gospel by reminding us of a foundational truth: Jesus wasn’t an afterthought in God’s plan. He existed from the beginning. He was with God, and He was God.
Jesus is not simply another voice competing for our attention. He is the Word through whom we come to understand God, ourselves, and the world around us.
When we lose our bearings, we need to return to Him.
ReCentering means making Jesus the reference point for how we think, what we value, and how we live.
It means opening God’s Word before allowing the world’s noise to dictate our perspective.
It requires bringing our worries to Jesus instead of letting our worries run our lives.
It calls for evaluating our priorities in light of God’s purposes rather than measuring our lives by the world’s standards.
And it means remembering that our circumstances may change, but Jesus remains Lord.
ReCentering isn’t a one-time event. It’s a daily practice.
Most mornings, we need to recenter before our feet hit the floor. Some days, if not often, we need to pause in the middle of the chaos and remind ourselves who God is and whose we are.
The good news? We don’t have to figure everything out before we return to Jesus.
We simply need to turn our attention back to Him.
When life pulls us in every direction, we must recenter our heart on Jesus.
Before you react, recenter.
Before you make that decision, recenter.
Before you allow fear, frustration, or the opinions of others to define your perspective, recenter.
Return to the Word. Remember who Jesus is and let His truth shape how you move forward.
None of us are able to control everything happening around us, but we can continually bring our heart and mind back to the One who holds all things together.
Food for Thought
What has been pulling you off center lately, and what practical step can you take today to recenter your life on Jesus?
Think biblically. Live purposefully. Keep your eyes on Jesus.

Until my next post…
Be salty, stay lit.
