Learning to carry what God has entrusted to you.
There are seasons in life when the weight of responsibility feels a lot like being in combat.
Not necessarily because you’re fighting an enemy, but because you’re carrying things that require courage, endurance, perseverance, and faith.
You’re trying to provide for your household. You’re showing up for your family. You’re caring for aging parents. You’re investing in other people’s lives. You’re trying to make wise decisions about your future while remaining faithful in the present.
And sometimes, you’re doing all of that while fighting battles nobody else can see.
Responsibility has weight.
It comes with expectations, obligations, difficult decisions, and sometimes sacrifices. There are days when you feel strong enough to carry it all. Other days, you wonder how much longer you can keep going.
But here’s something worth remembering: God never intended for us to carry every burden in our own strength.
The Bible reminds us:
Cast your burden on the LORD, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved.
Psalm 55:22 (ESV)
Notice that Scripture doesn’t suggest we won’t have burdens. It reminds us where to take them.
There’s a difference between accepting responsibility and believing everything depends on you.
God calls us to be faithful, not to be self-sufficient. He calls us to care for others, work diligently, provide for our households, and serve faithfully. But He also invites us to depend on Him.
Jesus offers another important reminder:
“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
Matthew 11:28 (ESV)
Sometimes the most responsible thing we can do is recognize when we need rest, ask for help, and allow God to carry what is beyond our ability.
Responsibility isn’t a punishment. It’s often an expression of love.
We carry responsibilities because people matter. Our families matter. Our commitments matter. The work God has placed before us matters.
But we must remember that the One who entrusted these things to us is also the One who promises to sustain us.
You don’t have to win every battle today. You don’t have to solve every problem tonight. You don’t have to prove your strength by carrying everything alone.
Just remain faithful to what God has placed before you.
Carry your responsibilities with courage. Carry your burdens to God. And remember that you were never meant to walk through life without Him.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT
What responsibility are you carrying today that you need to entrust more fully to God?
PRAYER
Heavenly Father, thank You for the people, opportunities, and responsibilities You’ve entrusted to me. Help me carry them faithfully without becoming overwhelmed by their weight. Give me wisdom to know what is mine to carry and humility to recognize what I need to surrender to You. Strengthen me when I’m weary, give me rest when I need it, and remind me that I never carry life’s burdens alone. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
