A Prayer for a Time of Spiritual Dryness

The other day in my post titled, “How Poetry Reawakens Our Prayer Life” I touched on the topic of experiencing spiritual dryness. As a result, here’s a prayer I want to share with those of you who may be wandering in the desert looking for God. I pray that it touches your heart and stirs your soul.

On Prayer

Prayer is a personal conversation with God. Prayer offers us a time to share our fears, hopes, and needs with our Creator. No one cares more for or about you than God.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:6-7

Through prayer, we can cast our anxieties onto God, trusting in His care for you, and receive peace that is beyond comprehension.

Dear Heavenly Father,

You are good. Yes, indeed, YOU are GOOD. We praise Your name with our every breath. We pray for those who may find themselves wandering through a desert of spiritual dryness, where Your presence feels distant to them and Your voice seems quiet and still. We come before You, O God, collectively seeking renewal and refreshment for our weary souls.

In the deserts of our spiritual journey, we cling to the promise You gave us through Your servant Isaiah, “The poor and needy search for water, but there is none; their tongues are parched with thirst. But I the Lord will answer them; I, the God of Israel, will not forsake them. I will make rivers flow on barren heights, and springs within the valleys. I will turn the desert into pools of water, and the parched ground into springs.” (Isaiah 41:17-18)

Lord, let this promise of provision and transformation be true for all of us who seek You today. Please quench our thirst with Your living water and revive our spirits with Your refreshing grace. Help us to remember and trust in Your faithfulness, even during those moments when we feel lost or forgotten. O God, O God, teach us to find You in silence, in Scripture, and in the gathered and scattered community of believers. Use this time of spiritual dryness to draw us closer to You, refining our faith and deepening our dependence on Your unchanging love.

We thank You for the truth of Your word upon which we can stand confidently and securely because You are the God who keeps His promises.

Please grant us patience to wait on Your timing, and the perseverance to seek You, even when You feel far away. Fill us again with the joy of Your salvation, and renew a right spirit within us, that we might glorify You in all we do.

In Jesus’ Name, we pray,

Amen.

The poor and needy search for water, but there is none; their tongues are parched with thirst. But I the Lord will answer them; I, the God of Israel, will not forsake them. I will make rivers flow on barren heights, and springs within the valleys. I will turn the desert into pools of water, and the parched ground into springs.

Isaiah 41:17-18

Have you experienced a season of spiritual dryness? What is one small step you can share with someone that they can take today to seek God, even in the midst of this challenging season?

I am thankful that God shows me signs of His presence nearly every day. He keeps me on the straight and narrow during those times I am struggling to not stray off into the desert of spiritual dryness.

You are loved.

Praying for us.

  2. Amen. Praising God for hearing our every prayer. May others witness prayer as the Lord’s causeway to share from one’s heart.
