John 14:6 (NET Bible) Jesus replied, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
We fail to bring people to God and to eternal life when we assign Jesus a role that is different than the role the Bible gives Him. Jesus is the truth because He is the embodiment of God’s supreme revelation. He is the life because in him, life is contained and through him, divine life is imparted. By declaring that he was the way, Jesus didn’t leave us any wiggle room. He wasn’t saying that He was one way to God amidst many. He wasn’t indicating that he pointed the way to God. Jesus boldly stated that no one was able to come to God the Father except through placing faith in Himself. Through Jesus Christ’s work on the cross we can become regenerated and receive eternal life, with the promise of a future grace affording us an unending presence in Heaven worshipping the Lord. Accepting God’s revelation through His son, Jesus Christ, assures us of a place at the table. Conversely, rejecting God’s revelation made through Jesus, results in eternal damnation.
