Together Everyone Achieves More

Collaboration is a big word for TEAM. Whether we admit it or not, none of us get anywhere by ourselves. We depend on others. Collaboration is the fundamental concept leading to significant, innovative change. Simply put, working together, we have the capability to achieve more. We do better together.

“If everyone is moving forward together, then success takes care of itself.” Henry Ford

The TEAM concept lies at the heart of humanity’s most primary relationships—marriage. The Bible tells us that God saw that it was not good for man to be alone so he created a companion—woman— to help him do the work God had given him—tending the garden.

Together Everyone Achieves More.

In today’s global society, where borders the way we once knew them have been redefined, the importance of collaboration and how we collaborate are front and center when we discuss innovation. Today, teams can work together anytime and anywhere in the world utilizing a myriad of new technological innovations.

Innovation is what makes new things happen. Without it, we’d still be hunkered in a cold cave somewhere wondering where our next meal was coming from.

Innovation and collaboration go hand in hand. New ideas and fresh thinking combined with the talents of those who bring vision to life change the world we live in daily. We don’t lack for ideas or resources. If anything, we lack people to connect the two; not because they don’t exist, but because too often we aren’t thinking in terms of TEAM.

Today, learning to collaborate—work as part of a team—is perhaps more critical than ever before. It is certainly paramount to successful innovation. Our world depends on us overcoming our differences to make real, significant progress. It’s difficult; no doubt. But it is crucial in order for us to see the good we imagine become tomorrow’s reality.

“The way a team plays as a whole determines its success. You may have the greatest bunch of individual stars in the world, but if they don’t play together, the club won’t be worth a dime.” Babe Ruth

We are frustrated when teams don’t work together well—like in government. We are angered when we experience the divisive “us or them” mentality. Freedom is impeded by isolationist thinking. None of us can change the fact that we are part of a bigger whole, so we must learn to work together, as part of the whole, in order to achieve more for the good of the whole. I think we can do that without sacrificing our individualism—those things that make us unique.

Indeed, I believe our individual uniqueness is the key ingredient of collaboration ultimately leading to successful innovation. When we approach a problem from the same perspective, our capacity for innovation is diminished.

TEAM doesn’t mean overlooking moral wrongs or setting aside your ethics. These, in and of themselves, are not good things. In the long run, this type of mentality does more harm than good. To be part of TEAM requires that you bring your moral compass and ethical sensibilities to the table. Being a person of character and integrity not only serve you well as an individual, but they are also traits that make you a great TEAM player.

We can be the good we want to see in our world. But we can only get there TOGETHER.

“We must learn to live together as brothers or perish together as fools.” Martin Luther King, Jr.
