2015 State Fair of Texas

Like thousands of others, my wife Terri and I recently had the opportunity to attend the 2015 State Fair of Texas. The weather has been great for it this year; not too hot, not too cold. There was lots to see and do, eat and hear. Big Tex was in fine form. The highlight for me was the Big Texas Music exhibit put on by the Dallas Historical Association.

A life long lover of music with a very eclectic taste and knowledge of different musical genres, I was blown away by the displays featuring guitars, stage apparel, vinyl records, old 8-tracks, and loads of memories. While we were there, we got to hear the Light Crusted Doughboys playing some old standards and experience the documentary “When Dallas Rocked” directed by former Buddy magazine editor Kirby Warnock and featuring the likes of Jimmy Vaughn, Ira Lipson, John Rody, Jimmy Webb, Vicki Wade, and Jon Dillon, among many others.

The Big Texas Music exhibit honors well-known Texas artists through a plethora of memorabilia, audiovisual displays and social interactives including daily live music performances from a wide array of artists. You’ll see artists who were born in Texas and those who have lived here and consider themselves natives and spans many decades. Whatever your favorite style of music is, you’ll find famous Texas musicians in every genre, genuinely celebrating the diverse range of talent arising from our great State The exhibit runs daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the Hall of State. Entrance is included in the price of admission to the State Fair.
