31 Days of Praise | Day 15 Our Shepherd

As we continue our 31 Days of Praise we celebrate Jehovah-Rohi-The Lord My Shepherd. From Genesis to Revelation, shepherds play a vital role in Scripture. Men like Abraham, Moses, and David were shepherds. Shepherds cared for sheep and goats.  Docile animals who are easily led, they were totally at the mercy of their environment and prone to attack by predators. Teaching their flock to obey their commands was no easy task, yet shepherds took tender care of raising these animals. Good shepherds were said to be diligent, dependable, and brave, even risking their lives to protect the flock.

This is an excellent picture of the Lord, our Shepherd. He cares for us and tends to us with tenderness and mercy. Through His son Jesus, the Lord did His utmost to save us. Whether we realize it or not, we are also excellent prey for predators and live precariously at the mercy of our environment. No one is guaranteed tomorrow. God looks out for us, tends to our needs, providing for us that which we are unable to provide for ourselves.

We can praise the Lord for being a magnificent shepherd who keeps us within sight and cares for us.

Psalm 23

1 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside still waters.
He restores my soul.

He leads me in paths of righteousness
for his name’s sake.
