The alarm didn’t go off like it was supposed to this morning. You’re running behind. Finally, you get out of the house only to find yourself stuck in traffic. It’s obviously not going to be your day.
Many of us, faced with this situation, lose our patience. We become frustrated because things aren’t going our way. We feel our blood pressure boil and our temper flaring. That’s a natural response. How do we learn to respond more supernaturally?
Neutralizing our impatience results in a better, calmer, and happier life. Here are 3 things you can do to practice greater patience when your day isn’t going according to your plan:
- Pray. Take it to God. Ask Him to give you supernatural peace at that moment you are struggling to keep your patience.
- Take a deep breath. Wait. This too shall pass.
- Alter your POV regarding your present situation. You can choose to get mad. You can also choose to let it go and concentrate on something more positive.
Prayer: Lord, help me focus on You when things aren’t going my way. Don’t let my anger take control. Help me see that this situation is temporary and soon will pass. Help me honor and glorify You in my daily interactions through exercising patience with others. Forgive me, Lord, for not being more patient today. Help me grow in my ability to exercise patience.
Yep. Been there.
