The COVID-19 Devotionals | Weekend Edition

It’s Saturday, Day 5 of the COVID-19 shelter-in-home order issued by Dallas County. The order enacted by Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins is in effect until April 3 but will likely be extended at least by a couple of weeks. Our hometown of Richardson put a similar order in place that is scheduled to last until April 30. While there are a lot of unknowns in all our lives, I’m grateful for my relationship with God. My faith helps me maneuver the murky waters associated with living in a world infected with COVID-19. In a previous post, I discussed how a crisis gives us an opportunity to draw closer to God as well as providing us the chance to show love to our neighbors.

5 practices that help us draw closer to God in a crisis:

    1. Prayer
    2. Fasting
    3. Quiet Time
    4. Bible Study
    5. Devotionals

5 ways we can demonstrate love to others during a crisis:

    1. Pray
    2. Care
    3. Serve
    4. Listen
    5. Encourage

While practicing social distancing, we need to be careful not to become socially isolated by disconnecting from family, friends, and fellow church members. Social distancing is one thing. Socially isolating is a totally different thing that leads nowhere good.

Here are 3 things you can do to prevent social distancing from turning into social isolation:

  1. Call family, friends, neighbors, and coworkers
  2. Leverage technology to meet in new and innovative ways
  3. Reconnect with old friends you have lost touch with over the years through phone, text, email, or other resource.

I hope you are enjoying reading the daily doses of the COVID-19 Devotionals. They are my attempt to chronicle our experience while encouraging you to draw closer to God and to love others during this time of crisis.

Prayer:

Lord, help us draw nearer to You during this storm. Keep those fighting this disease where the rubber meets the road safe from harm. Grant our leaders wisdom in the days to come. Above all, may You be glorified in the outcome. Praise You, O Lord. Amen.

Go in peace and be well.

To experience life the way God intended, you and I must receive God’s gift of salvation through Jesus Christ. This gift from God is available to all who ask. Will you personally receive the gift of eternal life so that you can experience the total forgiveness from your sins that come through believing in the atoning death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ?
