Sunday Prayer | Be the Blessing Someone Else is Needing Today

You don’t need me to regurgitate the headlines. Current events aren’t happy places today. It’s easy to get discouraged amid the noise of life and get hung up in the noose of negativity. The vitriolic dung keeps piling up, creeping closer to your front door, hoarding your social media feed, and invading every crevice of your life. There is no rest for the weary.

I get it. Life is tough these days. COVID-19 has slain all our normal distractions. Are you really watching Korean baseball (not that there’s anything wrong with that…)?

But…as bad as life may seem, you and I have it good. I woke up laying in a comfortable bed, next to a beautiful woman. I walked into the kitchen this morning and made fresh coffee. There is ample food in our fridge. Both our latest checkups showed that while we’re older, we’re fairly healthy. There is lot to be thankful about at our house. I wager that’s true at your house, too.

So, take that good news and go be a blessing wherever you go today. Even better, go be a blessing wherever you find yourself this coming week. I think you will be amazed at the difference you can make in this world one person and one conversation at a time.

Gracious words are a honeycomb,
sweet to the soul and healing to the bones. Proverbs 16:24 (NIV)

Prayer:

Father, May my thoughts be more about You than about me. Let my words speak healing and my actions bring blessing to others as a demonstration of my love for You, Almighty God, maker of heaven and earth, and as a sign of my love for others. Who is my brother? Anyone who calls Your name with praise. Who is my neighbor? Anyone who is not me. Thank You, God, for the many blessings that flow from You to my front door. Yours is the Kingdom, the Power , and the Glory. Amen!

Blessings,

The Devotional Guy™

  1. This is a good word. It’s easy to get overwhelmed by the negative—especially these days. Being grateful for what God has given us and seeking to bless others is an antidote. I especially like your idea that my neighbor is anyone who is not like me.
    Faith, hope, and love.

  2. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, David. We face a lot of challenges in 2020, individually and collectively. How do we make a difference? It starts with how we treat one another.

  3. Rainer, your discussion mirrors some of my Sunday online church worship. Studying 1 Peter 2:15-16, 21-25 encourages us to use the freedom we are given for good. My life is blessed in more ways than I truly deserve.
