Growing a successful blog is challenging. Like most things, you have to keep after it. Persistence matters. You must also be willing to invest significant time into developing your blog. Time is a precious resource that spends itself whether or not we are intentional in how we use it. It’s up to you to spend it wisely when focusing on your blog.
Growing a niche blog certainly is challenging. Developing a faith blog makes a challenging endeavor even more complicated. Producing an effective Christian blog and cultivating an audience that regularly reads and engages with your work seems even harder. But, nothing worthwhile comes easy.

I started blogging in 2008, learning mostly by the seat of my pants. This particular blog, The Devotional Guy™, began about seven years ago. It’s taken time, effort, and patience to capture an audience. Trial and error, regular tweaking, and continuous learning are ingredients comprising a recipe for blogging success over time. Growing my blog has been more of a slow-cooking process rather than an instant growth phenomenon.
In my blog, I share some of what I learn and reveal tidbits of my faith and recovery journey. Blogging lets me share my own experiences and thoughts with readers as I try to live a Christian life.
I’m not selling a product, but promoting a lifestyle. It works for me and I believe it might work for you, too. For me, the Bible is filled with wisdom and lessons that can help me live better if I apply them. God’s Word reveals a lot about Him, helping me know the Lord more deeply and enabling me to see my purpose in the world more clearly. Scripture shows me how to treat people and how not to treat them also. These are all good things.

In addition to spending time writing, I invest a good chunk of time into reading. I read different blogs and follow a number of other bloggers that write about a broad swath of topics. Many of them inspire me and fuel my desire to continue blogging. Over the years, I have discovered other like-minded bloggers that focus on the Christian faith. I listed them below. I encourage you to click on their link and check them out.
5 Faith Blogs I Follow
David shares positive thoughts from a Christian perspective without wasting words.
Zoey is a business student and self-described Jesus freak. She claims to be super socially anxious but I find her enthusiasm to be encouraging and contagious.
Julie Sheppard, aka Reiko Chinen, is a woman who has faced many storms in her life but with God’s help has overcome many ups and downs. She shares her love for God with others through her blog.
Alan describes himself as “an ordinary middle-aged Scotsman who loves God and is enthused by His Word as it lights my path before me.”
Ken is a man who loves the Lord, his family, and his friends. He’s a musician in addition to being an avid blogger. He enjoys sharing his Christian perspective with his readers.

Reflection Questions:
1. What is your blog about?
2. How much time do spend working on your blog each week?
3. What’s the most difficult part of blogging for you?
4. How much time do you spend reading other people’s blogs?
5. What are 5 blogs you follow?

Prayer:
Father God, thank You for the gifts of creativity and communication You have provided. Help each of us use our individual gifts wisely. Let us make the most of our time that You give us each day. Forgive us for when and where we fall short. Deliver us from distractions that would lead us astray. May our work to be the salt and light this world needs. For the praise of Your glory.
May the Lord shine His love through you this week. You can make a difference.
Blessings,
The Devotional Guy™

I’m not able to easily share links on this device, but I love Sally’s blog: Theology of a Newfoundland House Wife,” and CG of the “140 Character Christian.” Lastly, I never miss a post from the Christian wordsmith “Jeffrey H. King.”

Hi Rainer , you have done a great job sharing your blog journey here and encouraging others. Thank you so much for reading, commenting and giving my wee blog a “shout out” in your post. Personally I have been blessed in a big way through my short faith blogging journey; reading inspirational blogs and virtually meeting brothers (and sisters) in Christ. May our Father God continue to bless you and your ministry.

Thank you for your kind words, Alan. You’re welcome for the shout out. I believe it is important bloggers encourage other bloggers, especially when it comes to a niche blog focusing on the Christian faith. Thanks for sharing a bit about your own experiences on the blogosphere. Blessings.
