This 4th of July, Americans everwhere will celebrate Independence Day, commemorating the fight for freedom that took place in America during the late 1700s. Ignited by the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, the American Revolution sought to deliver the thirteen American colonies from under the heavy thumb of British rule. The colonists were united, free, and independent. And determined.
In this new POST-COVID era, Americans are again determined. I’ve heard reports that a record number of people will be traveling all around the country this holiday weekend to gather with family and friends in order to celebrate this 4th of July. We are earnestly celebrating our freedom again, this time from the pandemic that encumbered our lives for more than a year. This pent up yearning to enjoy the liberties associated with our freedom is catching fire globally, as the world seeks to rid itself from the heavy chains of COVID-19.

The irony surrounding this particular Independence Day surely is not lost on any of us as we get back to enjoying the freedom COVID temporarily hindered.
Looking back to that first Independence Day, America and the World were never again the same. Looking forward to this Independence Day, neither the World or America will ever again be the same post-COVID.
While our nation is not perfect, we do enjoy a lot of freedom and genuine opportunities exist for those who dare to dream big. If you can’t make it anywhere, you can surely try to make it here. The chance for a better life is what draws people to this majestic land.
Yes, we live in volatile times. Yes, there is deep disagreement about the way forward. Yes, there is anger, bitterness, prejudice, and rage. Yes, there exist unresolved differences. Nothing we do today will make the entirety of past wrongs right. We can not alter the past. However, we can be determined about our future and strive to make tomorrow better than today.

The Truest Freedom
As a Christian, I want to urge you to consider the true freedom that is found in Jesus Christ. Apart from Christ, we are destined to live spiritually separated from God and doomed—-left without hope. However, in Christ, we can become new creations, through a transformation of our heart and our mind. In Christ, we experience genuine hope and the truest freedom. We are no longer slaves to sin, but become free to make fresh choices and live an abundant life in Jesus. Jesus gives us a clean slate…if we’re willing to take Him up on His offer.

The Offer
Through His son, Jesus, God offers us the genuine gift of salvation. In Christ, we have forgiveness of sins. In Jesus, we discover redemption. Jesus came down from Heaven, took human form, lived a perfect, sinless life. Although He was not guilty, He died a criminal’s death, paying the debt for our sins on a cross at Calvary. He died and was buried. Three days later, Jesus rose from the grave, defeating death and providing us with eternal life.
Life in Christ is the truest freedom I’ve ever known. Loving Jesus is truly liberating. Because of my new life in Jesus Christ, I am determined to be better today than I may have been yesterday.
Last Words
I pray that your 4th of July weekend is filled with love and the celebration of true freedom. Stay safe and be mindful of others. Love one another well. Even those who disagree with you. For God is love and in Him we experience the truest freedom.
Humbly,
The Devotional Guy™
