Last Sunday, I published a post about forgiveness. Forgiveness is a subject that has been on my heart and on my mind lately. Our present time seems overwrought by division and derision. Forgiveness, let alone compassion and understanding, appears to be a foreign concept. Sadly, this looks to be true among the body of believers professing to follow Jesus Christ, our Savior and our Lord. The modern mantra taking hold of over all our land looks to be “If you disagree with me then you are my eternal enemy.” Not exactly loving your neighbor as yourself.
Many a recovering addict (like me) grasps the vital importance of mastering the art of forgiveness. Firsthand experience has taught us that bitterness and resentment are morbid conditions killing all who host it and destroying all that it draws near.
Forgiveness paves the road to peace, present and eternal. To forgive is to love. To love is to experience peace. We cannot know peace in this life or the next without love. We cannot fully love unless we are willing to forgive.
Included in this blog post is a new psalm that I’ve written recently on the subject of forgiveness. While it can lead to hard conversations, forgiveness is a key element of our Christian faith. I pray that if any unforgiveness remains in you, the Holy Spirit would help you remove it.

A Contemporary Psalm of Forgiveness
1. O Lord, Your mercy is boundless, Your grace unending, In Your presence, forgiveness is ever descending.
2. Though we all fall short, stumbling many times along the way, Your love remains steadfast, day by day.
Yes, Your love remains steadfast, day by day.
3. When we sin against others, and our hearts are heavy and weighed down, Your gentle voice calls us to own our wrongs, to renounce our frown.
4. For forgiveness is a balm that brings healing to the soul. Forgiveness is a precious gift that makes us whole.
O Lord, our God, Your love remains steadfast, day by day.
5. We come to you with contrite hearts, seeking your embrace. We humbly admit our mistakes, with humility and grace.
6. Lord, our God, we ask for pardon, for all the hurt we’ve caused. We ask for forgiveness for the pain we inflicted, the relationships broken and harmed.
Thankfully, Your love remains steadfast, day by day.
7. In Your compassion, You lift us up. You cleanse us of our guilt, filling our cup to overflowing. Your forgiveness flows like a mighty river; quenching our thirst, making us shiver.
8. Help us, O Lord, to follow Your example; To forgive as we have been forgiven, to be plentiful in grace and abundant in mercy.
Yes, Your love remains steadfast, day by day.
9. Holy Spirit, help us release the burden of resentment and strife. Help us extend forgiveness and embrace new life.
10. For in forgiveness, we find freedom’s sweet release. We unearth a pathway to healing, a journey of peace, each time we forgive. As you have forgiven us, may we forgive in turn.
How grateful we are, O Lord, that Your love remains steadfast, day by day.
11. With hearts wide open, we let forgiveness shine, leaving any resentment behind, so the path in front of us stays clear of any obstacles.
12. So let us praise you, O God of grace, For your forgiveness, an enduring embrace. Help us to forgive, as you have forgiven.
Because Your love remains steadfast, day by day.
13. Let us live in the light of your steadfast love, now and forever. Hallelujah!
14. May we continue to live in the light of Your steadfast love, now and forever. Amen and amen.
Your love remains steadfast, day by day.
This week, I pray you experience forgiveness in a new way in which you have never encountered it before and that through that fresh experience, may you continue to be transformed into the likeness of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.
Abundant blessings,
