Saturday in the Word | What Bible Verses Did You Encounter Recently?

Lately, I’ve been crazily aware of Bible verses I encounter. It’s like the Word of God just jumps out at me and says something profound and that says exactly what I need to hear in that very moment. These verses cross my path unexpectedly, not because I’m not in the Word, but because I dwell in it. In preparation for this blog, not to mention life in general, I spend a lot of time with God and in my Bible (or Bible app). I speak with people and engage in spiritual conversations.

For instance, this morning, as I was praying and thinking about kindness, generosity, and presence, the Lord brought Proverbs 22:2 to my mind. Here’s the Easy English Bible version:

This is true about rich people and poor people: The Lord created them all.

In a recent conversation with my Spiritual Director, we discussed and and prayed over John 17.

Read John 17 here.

We discussed 1 Corinthians 12:12-31 as we explored what God may have in store next as I recover from my battle with PTSD and heal from my grief journey. Now that burnout is something that is increasingly in my rearview mirror, this passage has helped me think about my purpose and my future.

The words of Jesus in the Gospel of Matthew Chapter 19, verses 23 and 24, challenged me, too, this week as I’ve spent time with God in His Word. Recovery and healing have been hard. I’ve only recently begun to grasp how bad off I was mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually. But, by the grace of God, I’m experiencing healing and seeing answered prayers come to life before my eyes.

And Jesus said to his disciples, “Truly, I say to you, only with difficulty will a rich person enter the kingdom of heaven. Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God.”

In sharing her testimony, Terri often shares how the words of John 14:6 jumped off the page and spoke to her.

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

As I’ve soaked in God’s Word, I’ve seen glimpses of the road ahead and He has restored my confidence as His Word molds and reshapes my identity. In a previous post this week, I discussed the potter and how he works the clay.

My friend, as we wrap up today’s Saturday in the Word, how have you experienced the Word of God this week?

Until my next post…

Be salty, stay lit.
