What you do with the DASH matters.

We are all born with an expiration date. I don’t know mine anymore than you know yours. In the end, two years will be inscribed on our tombstones. It’s what we do with the dash in the middle that’s important. We all have a beginning and an ending. L-I-F-E is what happens in the middle.

You’re writing your autobiography. What’s your opening sentence?

A couple of days ago, Terri and I spent a beautiful Sunday exploring the Spring Creek Trail before going to see the final two episodes of Season 4 of The Chosen at the Strike & Reel movie theater and entertainment complex.

The last several Sundays, Terri and I have had the opportunity—and blessing—of being highly intentional about spending time together. It’s been really good for us.

Whatever the first line for your autobiography is, remember these 3 things:

1. Be intentional about who you spend time with as much as you can.

2. Carve out time to do fun stuff with those you love, especially your spouse.

3. What you do with the DASH matters.

Terri had planned part of how we would spend the last several Sundays several weeks earlier. We also left room for some spontaneity that led us to walking the wooded nature trail this past Sunday. Strolling among the trees, out in the sunshine, connected us with our higher power—God. It was a beautiful time together.

Other people are happy to tell you how to spend your time for their benefit. It’s not theirs to spend.

My prayer for you this week is that you are able to be intentional about spending time with those you love, particularly your significant other.
