In addition to my drawing, I love taking photographs. It’s a passion that was reignited during my time working at a local Dallas homeless outreach. During my time there, I quietly got interested in street photography. These days my lens focuses more on suburban and nature photography.
Truth be told, I love being outside with a camera. There’s something about walking through the local parks and trails, watching the light change, noticing a leaf that somehow looks different from every other leaf, and seeing wildlife most people don’t even know exists in the suburbs.
I can’t help but realize God is really creative. Just take a look at a sunrise or a sunset. Birds, squirrels, turtles and a ridiculous variety of flowers.
God could have made one flower and called it good. Instead, He went far beyond what any of us could imagine.
And I love that.
Genesis tells us that we are made in the image of God. That means creativity isn’t just something some people are born with. It is part of what it means to bear the image of our Creator.
Maybe you paint, write, or take photographs. Perhaps you garden, cook, build things, design things, tell stories or simply find new ways to solve problems.
Creativity is one of the ways we reflect the Creator.
So don’t dismiss that creative spark inside you. Cultivate it. Lean into it. Make something. And when you find yourself amazed by something beautiful, remember:
You’re looking at the work of the Original Artist.
And maybe that little creative spark in you is one more reminder that you were made in His image.
