Our hope is not determined by the outcome of an election.
Following the midterm elections, some Christians are feeling a little blue. No doubt. Others may be celebrating. Depending on which side of the political aisle you find yourself, the election results may have left you encouraged, disappointed, or somewhere in between.
It’s understandable to have strong feelings about the direction of our country. It’s sobering to see some of the things our culture embraces and celebrates. Yet, before we become too discouraged or overly confident about the political landscape, perhaps we need a reminder of something far more important.
God is still sovereign.
The outcome of an election does not change who sits on the throne of Heaven. Political victories don’t increase God’s authority, and political defeats don’t diminish His power.
Scripture reminds us:
The LORD has established his throne in the heavens, and his kingdom rules over all.
Psalm 103:19 (ESV)
That’s a truth worth remembering, particularly when the world around us seems to be moving in a direction contrary to our biblical convictions.
As Christians, we have a responsibility to participate in the world around us. We should care about our communities, our country, our neighbors, and the decisions that shape our collective future. But we must never confuse our earthly citizenship with our eternal allegiance.
We are ambassadors of Christ.
The Apostle Paul reminds us that our citizenship is in heaven (Philippians 3:20). He also describes believers as ambassadors for Christ (2 Corinthians 5:20).
That means no political party has a monopoly on God. Neither party perfectly represents the Kingdom of Heaven. No candidate, elected official, or political movement can take the place of Jesus Christ.
We should be careful not to place our ultimate confidence in political leaders or institutions. After all, our calling is not to win political arguments at the expense of our Christian witness. Our calling is to represent Jesus faithfully.
We can disagree without becoming disagreeable. We can stand firmly on biblical convictions without surrendering our love for people. We can engage in the political process without allowing politics to consume our hearts.
And perhaps most importantly, we can remain hopeful when election results disappoint us.
Why?
Because God’s purposes are not dependent on our preferred political outcomes.
Remember, God hasn’t surrendered His throne. His kingdom hasn’t lost its authority. His Word hasn’t lost its truth. And our assignment as followers of Jesus hasn’t changed.
Let’s be people who pray for our leaders, love our neighbors, stand for biblical truth, and faithfully represent the One who sent us.
Our hope isn’t found in the White House, the State House, or the outcome of an election.
Our hope is found in the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

Until my next post…
Be salty, stay lit.

It’s easy to get caught up in what’s happening around us, and I know I sometimes need to step back and remember where my hope truly belongs. No matter what happens in this world, Jesus is still King, and God is still on the throne.
Lord, help us keep our eyes on You, love one another, and represent You well, even when we disagree. 🙏
