Let’s Travel Back in Time

Let’s travel back in time to Memorial Day Weekend 2020. It’s about two and a half months after the Lockdowns began in America. It’s the first major holiday weekend since the spread of the pandemic. There was talk of reopening and getting back to normal.

Angst and frustration filled the air. Store shelves were empty. Supply chains were disrupted. Life as we once knew it had changed dramatically if not altered permanently. An estimated 100,000 Americans are said to have died as a result of this virus in less than 90 days—equaling the combined total deaths our nation suffered in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. More were dying. Debate and skepticism ratcheted up as Americans —and others around the globe—quickly grew weary of the restrictions forced on them by various government agencies. Many wondered if COVID-19 was even real. Some decided it was all a big hoax designed to impose … what exactly?

Memorial Day

Many people have forgotten or never known that Memorial Day was originally called Decoration Day and had been established to honor those who died in the Civil War back in the 1860’s.

More than a hundred years later, in 1971, the United States Congress redefined Memorial Day as a national holiday. Memorial Day was set apart as a special time of observance to honor those who lost their lives in all the wars Americans have fought since those days when Union and Confederate soldiers fought each other on American soil.

Over the years, blogging as The Devotional Guy™, I’ve published several Memorial Day posts.

Personally, I am grateful to be an American. The history of our nation is fascinating and inspiring. I get our story as a country isn’t perfect or free from flaws. But, to me, it’s the greatest place on Earth.

Here are some of my previous Memorial Day posts:

As you spend time with your family, friends, and other loved ones, please remember those who gave their all.

Freedom isn’t free. I believe this is more important to remember today than ever.

Praying for us.

You are loved.

Oh my apologies. I seen the picture of you with the flag on the background and for some reason I thought it was a military photo. Nonetheless, thank you for reminding us of why we celebrate and why we Honor our Veterans on Memorial Day.

  7. Thank you for reading, Willie. To clarify, I am not a veteran but I am privileged and proud to know quite a few men and women who served. I figure one way I can best serve them is to advocate on their behalf through my blog.
Thanks for reading and liking my post(s).
